Hao Ren looked at her and thought, Didn't you say you wouldn't talk to me

But he wasn't petty enough to dwell on it. He turned around and picked up the room card, "Let's go."

Zhao Yanzǐ secretly sighed in relief; she had thought Hao Ren would ask her to eat out by herself. She was a stranger here, and if not for her hunger and parents being absent, there was no way she could have asked Hao Ren to accompany her.

Thinking about how she deliberately ignored Hao Ren earlier and now came pleading with him, Zhao Yanzǐ felt a bit inferior.

The two of them walked out of the hotel and went around looking for small eateries nearby. However, it was already past nine o'clock, close to ten at night, when most restaurants were closed. They wandered aimlessly without success, making their hunger worse.

Zhao Yanzǐ kept close to Hao Ren, afraid of losing him. Hao Ren walked along the relatively desolate streets and finally saw a small restaurant still open ahead.

They rushed in and were about to order two bowls of rice with toppings when they suddenly noticed all the patrons were rough-looking men, some bald-headed and bare-chested, shouting at each other while drinking.

Zhao Yanzǐ felt a bit scared and wanted to pull Hao Ren out of the restaurant. Hao Ren held her hand and comforted her, "It's okay."

He was too hungry to continue searching for another place to eat, and it seemed unlikely they would find another open restaurant at this hour.

Hao Ren led Zhao Yanzǐ to a corner and told the boss who came over to serve them, "Order one bowl of shredded pork in garlic sauce and one with stir-fried meat and green peppers."

He directly ordered for Zhao Yanzǐ too. Normally, she would have scolded Hao Ren for deciding on her behalf, but now that she was wary of those “dangerous men,” how could she still argue

"Wandering江湖, who can avoid getting drunk Three cups will knock you out; five cups will do the same..." Those drinking men at nearby tables kept guessing and drinking, the atmosphere growing more heated and the noise louder.

Zhao Yanzǐ looked at them, thought for a moment, and suddenly switched from sitting opposite Hao Ren to next to him.

Hao Ren smiled at her frightened expression, resembling a little bird, and extended his hand toward her.

Zhao Yanzǐ was stunned for a moment before realizing that Hao Ren wanted her to hold his hand.

"Get lost!" Zhao Yanzǐ quietly scolded him; she wasn’t so frightened as to need comforting.

Soon, two steaming bowls of rice with toppings were served. Zhao Yanzǐ casually took one and started eating ravenously.

Hao Ren was also famished and accepted the other bowl, devouring it in a similar manner.

If their dining posture were any indication, they did seem like an oddly matched couple.

After eating, both felt warm inside. Zhao Yanzǐ didn’t want to linger there and urged Hao Ren to pay the bill before quickly exiting the restaurant.

The small town at the foot of the mountain was unusually quiet. The distant mountains cast a continuous shadow in the darkness.

Under the moonlight, two shadows—one long and one short—were formed on the smooth concrete ground by them.

Zhao Yanzǐ looked at their almost overlapping shadows before her and suddenly realized how close she was to Hao Ren. She quickly moved away from him.

Shush... The sound of an unknown stray cat startled Zhao Yanzǐ again, making her move closer to Hao Ren.

Hao Ren faced her once more, placing his hand in front of her again.

Zhao Yanzǐ looked at him for a few seconds and said, "Just hold my hand for a moment."

With that, she placed her palm into Hao Ren’s hand.

Suddenly, her anxious heart felt secure. No matter what sounds came from the surroundings, she no longer felt as scared as before.

Hao Ren didn't say much and quietly led her back to the hotel along their previous path.

The serene town, silent mountains, faint breaths, light footsteps, and a slight moisture in his palm...

About ten minutes later, they returned to the parking lot in front of the hotel, and everything suddenly became brighter.

Hao Ren tactfully let go of Zhao Yanzi's hand. Zhao Yanzi turned her head to look at Hao Ren as if she was about to say something sharp but swallowed it back instead.

Her face was flushed red; she felt utterly useless and angrily walked into the hotel first. Hao Ren couldn't figure out what exactly she was thinking, but he knew Zhao Yanzi wasn't someone who would be gentle or obedient like a little girl.

Hao Ren followed her in and when they returned to their room, he found Zhao Guang hadn't come back yet.

He must have been so engrossed talking with Zhao Yanzi's parents and their friends that he lost track of time. Hao Ren thought to himself.

Lying down on the bed, Hao Ren opened Zhao Yanzi’s pink backpack, took out her camera, and found there was only one photo taken all day: it was the one where Zhao Yanzi was pouting while sitting on a step looking up.

She's not that unbearable... Hao Ren shook his head with a smile before putting the camera away.

When he finished taking a hot shower and came out of the bathroom, Zhao Guang had returned.

Zhao Guang asked about today’s mountain climbing situation. Hao Ren answered briefly. Zhao Guang nodded without saying anything more and went into the bathroom to take a shower.

Hao Ren awkwardly burrowed under the covers, imagining that Zhao Hongyu must also be asking Zhao Yanzi about what happened today in her room opposite.

No matter how you look at it, today was quite an eventful day but ended without major incidents. Taking care of this girl is really a hassle.

Exhausted from the day’s activities, Hao Ren fell asleep before Zhao Guang got out of the bathroom.

The next morning when he woke up, Hao Ren saw Zhao Guang leaning on the bed watching TV.

"Tired yesterday" Zhao Guang asked when he saw Hao Ren wake up.

"Not bad," Hao Ren replied.

"We'll go to eat some countryside food around here in a while, then we're heading home," Zhao Guang said.

"Alright," Hao Ren nodded. After thinking for a moment, he added, "Thank you very much for your hospitality these past two days."

"Get up," Zhao Guang walked to the window and pulled back the curtains.

Outside it was drizzling lightly, making the mountain scenery look hazy yet beautiful. A slightly cooler breeze than yesterday wafted in from outside through the window, invigorating Hao Ren.

Hao Ren put on his shirt, then went to wash his face and brush his teeth in the bathroom. Once he was ready, he followed Zhao Guang across to knock on the door.

The door opened, and Zhao Yanzi stood beside her mother at the entrance.

She wore a long milk-colored T-shirt with beautiful deep purple tights underneath. The top was loose while the bottom hugged tightly; besides the adorable shirt, the tight-fitting tights accentuated her legs into an elegant, slender curve that made Hao Ren couldn't help but look at her several more times.

The other girl wore a bohemian floral maxi dress with exaggerated and abstract patterns combined in a fluffy style, making it both casual and beautiful.

Both mother and daughter were wearing straw hats. The wide-brimmed brown hat complemented Zhao Hongyu's light and dark shades of skirt, showing elegance; however, the matching of the straw hat to Zhao Yanzi’s outfit was somewhat peculiar but still innovative, adding a lively highlight in this gloomy weather.

"Let's go," Zhao Hongyu gently took Zhao Yanzi's small hand and handed her room key to Zhao Guang.

Zhao Guang led Hao Ren as the four of them followed the hotel’s red carpet corridor towards the front desk.

As they passed through the hotel hallway, Qingyanshan Mountain under the rain looked like a freehand ink painting and entered Hao Ren's view.

Suddenly, Hao Ren really felt that he had become part of their family.ser.The new Lingzhao High School is right south of Donghai University's main gate, across a road from it. Hao Ren’s dormitory area is also on this side of the university and only a stone’s throw away...
