Yan Luoxi dragged her suitcase and walked angrily in the rain. After being chilled by a cold wind, she couldn't help but shiver involuntarily. At this moment, she suddenly felt that it was foolish to be so immaturely angry with Shao Junhe. Suddenly remembering Li An, her nose stung, and she wasn't sure whether what was on her face was rainwater or tears.
She shouldn't continue like this anymore.
She told herself to stop being melancholic and sniffled, wiping away the water on her face, then walked briskly forward alone.
Yan Luoxi had gotten off the train spontaneously without noticing where she was. Dragging her suitcase out of the station, she realized that this place was a clean and ancient-looking southern town. Everything looked gray in the drizzle, but the nearby small buildings and courtyards seemed solemn yet charming.
She flagged down a taxi and choked up as she said, "Could you please take me to the best hotel here" She didn't mean to show off; it was simply that she had no energy left to fight with any unsettling factors or impoverished surroundings.
The driver seemed honest and didn't chitchat with Yan Luoxi. Five minutes later, he brought her to a somewhat larger three-story building and said apologetically, "Miss, this is the best hotel in our town."
Yan Luoxi looked at the inconspicuous little building and didn't have any strength left to argue anymore. She gave the driver money and got out of the car, dragging her suitcase into the not-so-large hotel.
The exterior of this hotel wasn't impressive, but inside it was very clean and comfortable. There might not be many guests here; the sleepy-looking staff were quite enthusiastic when they saw Yan Luoxi enter. They accommodated her request by arranging a room on the quietest third floor.
Yan Luoxi's clothes had long been soaked through by the rain, making her shiver uncontrollably. As soon as she entered the room and put down her suitcase, she quickly rushed into the bathroom for a hot shower to get rid of the chill.
Even after the bath, she still felt cold and ended up hiding under the covers.
Saying that when one is unlucky even drinking cold water can cause trouble; Yan Luoxi's body wasn’t made of iron. After being mentally shaken yesterday afternoon, followed by drinking alcohol late at night and getting rained on today, she started to develop a fever.
Lying in bed, she felt increasingly colder. Even when the air conditioner was set to 30 degrees, she still shivered. Feeling dizzy and weak, she got up to look for some medicine but found none in her suitcase.
With no other choice, she drank a cup of hot water which made her feel warmer, then went back to bed to sleep.
For Yan Luoxi, a cold wasn’t a serious illness. When she was studying at university alone, if she got sick, she would either take some fever-reducing medicine given by the school doctor or drink a large cup of hot water and sleep in her dormitory; by the next day, she’d be back to her lively self.
Later on, with Zhou Guangtao and Li An taking care of her, she became more pampered. Every time she fell ill, she would insist on having a high fever before they would fuss over her attentively...
Thinking about the past made Yan Luoxi’s nose tingle again; these bad habits were cultivated by being spoiled by men who had all turned their hearts elsewhere now.
She shook her head, trying not to dwell on things that would only make her sad. Now she was sick and alone with no one to ask after her well-being, so she needed to be strong.
Yan Luoxi lay awake in **, staring at the ceiling as she started counting sheep. After a while, she felt disoriented and unsure of her surroundings. Eventually, she drifted off to sleep.
Shao Junhe followed Yan Luoxi from the train station all the way to this hotel, wiping rainwater off his face. He urgently asked the staff if Yan Luoxi was staying here.
The young attendant, seeing Shao Junhe drenched but still handsome and graceful, couldn't help blushing. His mood visibly improved as he smiled at Shao Junhe, answering all of his questions openly and honestly.
Shao Junhe told the attendant that Yan Luoxi was his girlfriend who had left in a huff after an argument and asked him to arrange for him to stay in the room next to hers so that he could take care of her.
The attendant looked somewhat disappointed but still courteously led Shao Junhe to the room beside Yan Luoxi's and arranged his accommodation there.
Despite being soaked through and feeling cold, Shao Junhe was quickly cheered up by the thought that Yan Luoxi was just next door.
This time out, he had not brought any luggage or spare clothes. Originally, he wanted to ask the attendant downstairs to buy him some clothes from a store but seeing how they looked at him, he decided it would be better to avoid trouble and wait until after the rain for a shopping trip himself.
Shao Junhe first took off his wet clothes and put them in the washing machine to clean and dry before taking a hot shower.
After the shower, Shao Junhe pressed his ear against the wall of Yan Luoxi's room for quite some time but heard no sound from inside. He guessed that she must have lain down to rest and didn't dare be careless, bringing in his half-wet clothes and using a hairdryer vigorously until his wrist felt sore.
He had to dry his clothes before Yan Luoxi woke up; otherwise, if she left suddenly again, he couldn't run after her naked!
Shao Junhe was not familiar with the specific situation in Yan Luoxi's room, so after drying his clothes, he brought over a chair and leaned against the wall.
The past day had been exhausting; he hadn't slept at all. Now that he sat quietly in the room, sleepiness crept up on him. He nodded off while keeping his head down but couldn’t afford to really fall asleep because if Yan Luoxi left suddenly with her luggage and he overslept, wouldn’t he regret it for the rest of his life
Shao Junhe persisted like this without sleeping until evening when his eyes were bleary and his neck stiff. There was still no sign of movement from Yan Luoxi's side; he glanced at his watch, feeling something wasn't right. He quickly dressed himself and got up to find a waiter.
In his anxious moment, Shao Junhe didn’t care about anything else anymore. Using his looks, he persuaded the waiter: pretending that his girlfriend was stubborn and hadn’t come out of her room for such a long time; he worried she might be thinking too much and asked if the service could knock on Yan Luoxi's door to bring her hot water or ask her to eat dinner.
The waiter gave Shao Junhe a smug smile, with something else in her eyes. She envied Yan Luoxi for having such an attentive and handsome boyfriend like Shao Junhe; at the same time, she felt lucky that she could be close to this kind of good-looking guy.
The waiter knocked and called on Yan Luoxi's door several times but there was no response inside. At this point, Shao Junhe really started to feel afraid.
He knew very well what sort of trauma Yan Luoxi had suffered in the past two days; he had personally witnessed her madness outside the train station. He was truly scared that if she was pushed too far, she might do something reckless.. He knew that Yan Luoxi didn't want him to get close to her school and was angry about it, so he wanted to upset her.Yan Luoxi glared at Li An’s irritating face and angrily got out of the car. Seeing...
