Li Yi stared at Ni Xuanyi for a while before slowly answering, "Alright, if you want to go back and take a look, then do so. I will send someone to accompany you."
"No need. That place is my home; I am very familiar with it and can protect myself." Not wanting to cause Li Yi more trouble, Ni Xuanyi refused.
Li Yi narrowed his eyes slightly, frowned, and looked at her with a deep gaze like an endless pool of water. "Xuanxuan, what are you doing Why must you be this way I am not comfortable leaving you by yourself!"
"Did I say anything wrong I grew up there and lived for seventeen years without dying; how can your people avoid getting lost there no matter their abilities" Ni Xuanyi was feeling resentful, so her tone had a hint of mockery.
Li Yi seemed to not have expected Ni Xuanyi to speak like this. He looked somewhat disheveled and turned his head towards the window; his drunk eyes were slightly blurry as he felt indescribable resentment, unsure if it was due to Ni Xuanyi's anger or something else.
The driver who had been following Li Yi for years, both as a bodyguard and confidant, had never heard anyone speak to Li Yi like this before. He couldn't help but glance at Li Yi from the rearview mirror.
Ni Xuanyi realized she might have spoken too harshly; she shouldn't provoke a man's pride nor say such things to an extremely proud person like Li Yi, but her stubborn nature wouldn’t allow her to admit fault.
After some time, Li Yi turned his head and smiled without showing any emotion. "Alright, then go home."
Ni Xuanyi hurriedly said goodbye to Li Yi and pushed open the car door with force, jumping out of the car as if she were escaping.
After leaving the car, she walked quickly towards the apartment entrance. Suddenly, she heard the sound of a car door opening behind her, followed by Li Yi's warm and steady voice, "Xuanxuan, call me when you encounter any issues after getting back, take care of yourself!"
Tears immediately welled up in Ni Xuanyi’s eyes as she stopped and turned her head.
She saw Li Yi standing beside the car still dressed in the evening gown he wore for tonight's annual meeting. The clothes fitted him perfectly, accentuating his exceptional stature with chiseled eyebrows, starry eyes, and neatly trimmed hair, truly embodying a graceful and elegant figure.
Seeing such a Li Yi made Ni Xuanyi even more sorrowful. She quickly waved at him and ran into the apartment entrance.
The next day, Ni Xuanyi buried herself in sleep for an entire day. When she woke up, it was dark again, and her company had already closed for the holiday. Lin Yino had gone on a trip with her new boyfriend to a tourist area. After sitting dazedly for some time after getting up, she finally got up to wash up and started searching for train tickets online.
Train tickets were hard to come by during New Year's, and Ni Xuanyi’s last-minute decision to go home made it even harder to get a ticket. In the end, she had to buy from scalpers and could only return four days later.
The past three years since leaving her home, Ni Xuanyi truly missed home very much and often dreamed of returning there; however, because she feared facing the sorrowful reality of her parents' death and her grandfather's absence, she had never dared to come back.
When Ni Xuanyi returned to Dounang Town, it was already dark. She saw smoke rising from chimneys in the distance, a few-zhang-wide stream meandering around the town, moist air with a few dead leaves floating on it like little boats.
The town has a small courtyard where Ni Xuanyi and her grandfather live.
In the twilight, she saw from afar her two rooms standing lonely and desolate, feeling cold and melancholy even at this distance. Tears welled up in Ni Xuanyi's eyes as she looked at the house.
As she slowly walked towards home, only when she got closer did she realize that the dilapidated walls of her courtyard had been replaced with beautiful blue bricks, the old black houses repainted with fresh paint, and the yard was clean and tidy, even growing lush green plants.
She was surprised; could it be that her grandfather has returned He isn't dead!
Ni Xuanyi pushed open the courtyard gate in shock and delight, then hurried to the front door. When she tried to push it open forcefully, she found out that the door was still locked.
Her heart sank again; even though she knew it was just her imagination, discovering the truth inevitably led to another bout of disappointment and sadness.
Ni Xuanyi stood at the door for a while before taking out the key from her bag and unlocking it. After entering, she turned on the lights and was startled by what she saw in the room.
The not-so-big living room had neatly arranged new furniture; family photos of herself with her grandfather as well as her parents were framed and hung up on one wall. The walls had been freshly painted and still smelled of paint, while old pieces of furniture were sealed off and placed in a side room.
Ni Xuanyi slowly entered her bedroom where there was an intricately carved single bed with her yellow-pink cartoon bedding, a large stuffed bear on the pillow end, green curtains with light green borders, and a hanging orchid pot overflowing with small flowers, whose long vines hung down from the windowsill, making the room full of vitality.
The furniture in the room where her grandfather used to live was also simply replaced, and the small bathroom was completely renovated with the installation of a modern shower room. The water temperature display on the heater showed 50 degrees Celsius. New appliances were installed in the kitchen, and even fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and meat, milk, cakes, etc., were packed into the refrigerator.
Ni Xuanyi's eyes turned red as she circled around the house, looking from one room to another. She had originally feared that her home would be cold and desolate when she returned, but she never expected it to have undergone such drastic changes.
Only one person knew that she was returning home, only one person could do these things for her, and only one person could make everything so perfect in such a short time!
Ni Xuanyi's originally resentful, angry, and sorrowful heart suddenly became clear. On the way back this time, she had thought that after returning to City G, she would quit her job and, upon graduating from university, walk away far into the distance, never seeing Li Yi again in this lifetime or any other. But now, seeing all the things Li Yi did for her, she couldn't help but start missing him.
She opened the window, letting the familiar moist air飄進來,看著遠處的天幕,她不禁有些後悔了,如果那晚她不說那些難聽的話,或許她現在正躺在厲家的大床上看書,或者她和厲熠一起坐在沙發上看電視。
They could be like last year, going to the supermarket together to buy New Year's goods. Li Yi would wrinkle his brow and struggle to pick out various small items he was least proficient at choosing. While she mocked him for being a "life idiot" in selecting useless things, she would put them back on the shelves. Upon returning home, Li An would excitedly rush over, curiously laying all their purchases on the ground, then choose with a smile on his lips.
As Ni Xuanyi thought about this, she couldn't concentrate on anything else in the house. She imagined how Li Yi instructed people to buy these things for her and felt even more pangs of longing, to the point where she had an urge to impulsively return to City G and back to Li Yi's villa.
She even fantasized about Li Yi's surprised joy upon seeing her, his actions, and what he might say to her.r eyes in surprise, looking at the dejected Yan Luoxi: "When you left the Li family back then, weren’t you taken away by your mother"Yan Luoxi saw that Gu Xiaobei's surprised expression didn't seem fa...
